What is the hardest metal?
Platinum is a naturally hard-wearing metal that only needs to be mixed with a small amount of other metals before it can be made into fine jewellery; the platinum we use at Sacet is 95% pure platinum. It’s a great option for jewellery that you wear every day, such as engagement and wedding rings.
In its purest form, gold is a little softer than platinum, and it has to be alloyed with a larger proportion of other metals such as zinc, copper and palladium to make it more hard-wearing. The higher the carat, the higher the purity: 9k gold contains 37.5% pure gold and is a durable choice for everyday wear, while 18k gold has a higher level of purity at 75% and is perfect for fine jewellery and special occasions.
