Green Light Living: Our Tips to Start a Sustainable Lifestyle

4th December 2020

In the grand scheme of things, living a sustainable life may feel like you’re not making much of a difference. Trust us - you couldn’t be further from the truth. Everybody has their part to play and contributing to a better future for the world is incredibly rewarding. Putting positivity out into your community by being sustainable will help you live a more fruitful life. Here’s a couple of ways to improve your life and start a sustainable lifestyle.

Recycle

Whether you’re putting your rubbish in the right bins or reusing water bottles, there are plenty of ways to recycle effectively. Every little bit makes a difference, so make sure you write down all the ways you could be recycling and take note of which parts of your life aren’t sustainable.

Donate

Donating to charity shops isn’t only giving a helping hand to a great cause. Committing to charity recycling keeps your clothes away from the landfill and puts them into the hands of people who need them most. It doesn’t have to be clothes either - all those board games and old DVDs can be donated too.

Eat less meat

Many people assume that you have to be either a meat-eater, vegetarian or vegan when it comes to diet. You can still reduce your meat consumption without quitting altogether. Buying from the right sources means you’re making your voice heard with your money too. In fact, a UN report has indicated that there has to be a drastic move away from meat diets if we’re to alter the effects of climate change.

Grow your own food

This one not only increases your sustainability - it’s a lot of fun too! Whether it be in your garden or a nearby allotment, growing your own food is satisfying, rewarding and delicious. You’ll drastically reduce your carbon footprint and be eating a lot healthier too. We’d suggest growing some tomatoes and potatoes when you’re getting started.

Buy ethically

Like a voting ballot, where you spend your money is an expression of your views. Buying ethically and sustainably helps to promote a better world that we all want to live in. All of us have a part to play in what kind of world we want to live in. Pursuing a sustainable lifestyle is incredibly satisfying while making you feel both healthier and happier.
